Good Afternoon Colleagues,

 

These are INSPIRING times for TRiO!  Come to the Charleston Marriott Town Center in Charleston, WV April 9-12 to celebrate MEAEOPP’s conference theme “TRiO: Own It Now and Inspire the Next Generation” by learning about Reaching Our Alumni, having an Emotional First Aid Kit, Using Google creatively in your program, Move Your Bus: An Extraordinary New Approach to Accelerating Success in Work and Life (based off of the book by Ron Clark), Advocacy, Dealing with Diversity, Research-based presentations that address low-income and first generation students, How to Create a State Fact Book, AND SO MUCH MORE!

 

There will be some exciting changes in our conference this year.  Here are just a few:

  • TRiO alumni and Emerging Leaders reception Saturday evening (hoping to have a string quartet and local/state legislators)

  • Free STEM pre-conference Sunday afternoon

  • Opening Plenary Sunday evening with Fernando Cardenas, COE expert on galvanizing TRiO Alumni

  • “Stepping Up for TRiOwill take the place of the Fun Run activity and will involve rewarding your number of steps at the conference AND a “Stepping Up” T-shirt

  • Find Your Why: Night of Inspiration” where you will can re-charge and re-set with choices of participating in a local paint night, book club discussion of Move Your Bus (with hot chocolate and cookies!), a trip to the Casino, Shopping, or just dinner on your own or with colleagues

  • “Legends Luncheon: Honoring the Past to Inspire the Future” where the past will meet the future

  • Best Practices Stations

  • on Legislation and Regulations and Technology Tools (Anyone can attend - not just directors or coordinators)

  • Vending by local artisans as well as nationally known vendors

  • The AFTERPARTY featuring Tina Turner!

  • ONE FREE breakfast per room

  • Extensive use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram to post to the TRiO community and your personal peeps

  • Printed copies of the program as well as the electronic use of Guidebook

 

The Council for Opportunity in Education will be represented and share timely information affecting our programs:

  • Michelle Danvers Faust, COE Board Chair

  • Maureen Hoyler, COE President

  • Kimberly Jones, Vice President of  Public Policy and Communications

  • Fernando Cardenas, Alumni Coordinator 

 

We are also hoping to have a representative from the US Department of Education give a TRiO update.

 

And of course…we will have our First-time attendees session, candidate’s forum, traditional state meetings, business meeting, Recognition banquet (TRiO Achievers, MEAEOPP President, Scholarship Winners, Outstanding Service in each state/district, Emerging Leaders), and our infamous state/district baskets for auction and the 50/50.

 

The Community Project will be announced soon and I know you will be motivated to donate to this worthwhile cause.
